2002 Family Trip - Bodie

Bodie is this really cool place that is about a 3 hour drive from the Tahoe area. It is in a very, very seculded area. On the last picture you will notice that the Marine Mountain Warfare Training Center is located about 15 miles away from Bodie, and on the sign for the Base they note that it is often considered the Marine base in the desolate, distant area. That about says it all for the area. Anyway, Bodie was a Silver Mining town up until the time of the Depression. The townsfolk rapidly deserted the town at that time and since then there has been an effort to maintain the town in the exact same condition it was when the mass exodus occured. Therefore within the houses there are magazines and books still laying on the tables, kitchen utensils as if they were just laid down, and cars degrading in the middle of the streets. Wonderfully eerie and a place you can walk around in for hours. Dang cool, one of my favorite things about the trip.
